I am 32 weeks pregnant, and I have been noticing that my baby has been having alot of hiccups recently. Now I know that the hiccups are perfectly normal, I just wonder, do other women experience them as frequently. She has the hiccups about 4 times daily, and I just wondered if other mothers noticed them as frequently.

Both my kids, especially my son had the hiccups all the time. I loved it, at first I didnt realise that the rythmic kicks were hiccups but once I realised what they were I got such a kick out of it! My son had the hiccups alot as a baby too.

Hiccups are only "normal" depending on who you ask. Jason Collins of the Pregnancy Institute soundly believes that hiccups are a sign that your baby may be in distress. He has done extensive research on this issue. In my opinion, not necessarily all babies who hiccup are in danger but please be very alert to your baby's movement (kicks per hour) and anything else about your baby that just makes you feel not quite right. My first child, Aidan, was stillborn six days after my due date. He had very frequent hiccups. Collins believes it may have ben a cord compression issue.

Good luck to you and your baby.

wow, I sorta wish I hadn't looked back at that post!!! Yikes, my baby has the hiccups about 5 times a day. My Doc said that her baby had them nearly every hour. Well I hope that everything is ok with my baby.

I think that ALQBsmommy was just letting us know her experience and I think that when someone loses a child they really want to help others not to have to experiece the same thing. I am terribly sorry for your loss ALQBsmommy.

Loss is a terrible thing to experience and the worst thing is, there is usually no explanation for why it happens and in almost every case there is nothing that a woman could have done to prevent it.

Losing a child after the first trimester is very rare but its something every pregnant mommy is terrified about. Please do not worry, 99% of babies born in the 3rd trimester are perfectly healthy, hiccups and all.

But as ALQBsmommy had also stated, its best to be aware of your babies movements in the last trimester. And if you ever feel anxious about your baby's health, be sure to contact your health provider. They are not just there for medical care but should also be available to you for support.

However, the best thing that you can do for you and your baby is to relax and enjoy your pregnancy, it goes by faster than you'd think!
